KoyoCon 2024

KoyoCon 2024 Artist Alley Books

As I’m slowly beginning to recover from the mixture of a cold, malnutrition and sleep deprivation that is my familiar companion at every convention I go to, I wanted to write a few words about KoyoCon 2024 that took place last weekend.

I believe I have been to every single main KoyoCon convention since the very first year it was held, so it’s not like there’s a lot that hasn’t already been said time and time again, but I really do enjoy going to sell books in the Artist Alley each year—despite what my miserable expression might suggest once it’s nearing 10 pm after being at it for 12 hours straight, running on fumes and energy drinks.

This was the first convention I went to after the release of Eerie Song and I’m blown away by how many familiar faces still show up to grab a copy of the latest book in this long-running series (a series that is finally coming to its end with the next book).

It really does warm my heart.

But, of course, it wouldn’t be a proper convention experience without some funny moments.
This time around, I would like to highlight the person who came by and told me about how many different kinds of my bookmarks they had bought (strongly suggesting that they had visited my booth at multiple conventions) and then in the middle of the conversation that followed looked at the display next to said bookmarks—the display that took up 60% of the table—and went, “Oh, I didn’t know you wrote books!”

If any moment truly captures how terrible a salesperson I am, I feel like it’s this one.

KoyoCon Aarhus 2023

Books Artist Alley

I’m slowly recovering from the latest KoyoCon, this being their new Aarhus based event that was held for the first time this weekend.

Once again you could find me in Artist Alley, selling books and trinkets, quite often halfway through putting on makeup or wigs for a cosplay. So if you came and talked to me while pointedly ignoring me having only a single heavily done up eye, know that you are appreciated.

I have no funny cosplay stories from this con, and I’m fairly sure nobody took any photos that my friends can use for blackmail for years to come, so this will be a fairly boring Post Con post. Maybe I will take this chance to talk about what’s going on with my writing? That is such a foreign concept to both me and readers of this blog, but I have actually been working hard on my next book, and during the weekend I might have made a lot of promises about when said book might arrive in the wild, so… keep an eye on this space, I guess?

(Cue internal panic as yours truly realizes that she now has to follow through on all those promises.)

Better end with a little bit of con shenanigans. I won the League of Legends quiz! And no, it had nothing to do with me dragging my LoL enthusiast coworker along, since my own League experience boils down to the 2½ matches I played back in 2010…

Also, I 100% wore the cat ear headset accessories I got as a prize during our weekly meeting call at work on Monday afternoon.
…Not a single one of my coworkers commented on them. I’m not quite sure what that says about my everyday weirdness level, to be honest.

KoyoCon 2022

Artist Alley KoyoCon 2022

Last week I went to KoyoCon, as I do every year. It’s hard to keep coming up with new and interesting things to share when doing a post, but as is most often the case, I had a good time!

Even after all these years, I greatly enjoy talking to people who come by my booth in Artist Alley and I’m so happy that I keep seeing both new and old faces. There’s always an inspiring author asking for advice, and someone coming by to get my latest book after buying the other ones at a previous convention.

Oh, and then there are the conversation where you spend 20 minutes talking to someone with a TV for a head.

(Cosplay conventions are the most trippy experiences you can get without drugs.)

I did a bit of cosplaying myself as well. I had somehow gotten roped into cosplaying Ada Wong from Resident Evil 4. How she chases zombies in that evening dress in the middle of some Mexican desert town, I will never understand, but I think I mostly kept from accidentally flashing people.

My friends had way too much with getting me to pose for photos, though, so I’m honestly afraid of checking the contents of my camera’s SD card.

Maybe you’ll get an embarrassing cosplay post one of these days.

I’m Going to KoyoCon 2022

KoyoCon 2022 will be held this weekend, opening on Friday, and once again you will be able to find me at my table in the Artist Alley area of the convention, likely complaining about how heavy boxes of books are to lug around.

If you’re going, come by and have a chat.

I will, of course, be selling copies of my books, but restlessness have caused me to broaden the selection of goods I’m offering.

Basically, what I’m saying is that I learned how to crochet because I needed a few dice bags, and things got out of hand.

They need to go before I end up drowning in them, okay? And no, just ceasing making them is apparently not an option.

Crochet hooks and yarn have most ADHD toys beat.

Don’t really have much of an excuse for the jewelry, except that I needed something to do with the leftover materials from bookmark making. So yeah, you can buy a set of earrings as well, because why the heck not?

Oh, and my mother also knitted a bunch of owls, and I’m trying not to take it personally. Come get one of those as well.

If you’re trying to find my booth on the convention map, I have renamed it as “Louring’s Books and Knickknacks”. Three guesses as to why.

DokoCon and the Big Plant Heist

Crowley Cosplay Good Omens

So, I went to DokoCon this weekend. It’s a tiny Danish cosplay convention held for the first time this year, so the scheduled program was limited. This is understandable, of course, but it did mean that after I brought my team to victory in the Harry Potter quiz (my reading list had been well-timed) I had to find some way to entertain myself. I had opted not to get a booth to sell books this time around, so I found myself with a lot of time on my hands.

And I was cosplaying as Crowley from Good Omens. You should never let demons get bored.

I have always said that if you just appear like you have every right to be doing whatever you’re doing no one stops you, but I’m still slightly surprised no one questioned me when I made off with one of the potted plants from the canteen.

I walked around the entire convention area while carrying this thing, and only one person was like, “Why do you have a plant?”.

The plant, of course, was too scared to call for help. It knew the consequences of such actions.

Last time I wore this cosplay, I kidnapped an Aziraphale (she didn’t dare ask questions either), so I fear I’m making a habit out of abducting hapless creatures. But as I probably couldn’t get away with stealing a Bentley, I have to make do in some way.
